This years annual tournaments have now come to an end. Every event was well contested for and enjoyed by all who'd entered. Results to be posted later, with the prize giving to be held at the annual clubs summer BBQ, which hopefully will be held at the same time as the clubs golf tournament. Dates still to be confirmed.
Club secretary Mark Moran has recently passed his SBU umpiring exam and is now a fully qualified Badminton Scotland court official. So WELL DONE to him!!!. This now enables him to umpire at such great events like the Scottish Nationals, the Kinross Junior Club Tournament and the All England Badminton Championships.
The Junior annual tournament has come to an end with everyone involved performing very well. The junior club was lucky enough this year to have all thier finals umpired by recently SBU qualified umpire, and adult Club Secretary Mark Moran, who did exceptionally well giving the abusive rants from our young atheletes. All results to follow on the Junior web page.
Sports Development Officer Simon Warren and Local councillor Sandy Miller came to visit the club and presented President Bill Macdonald and members of the club with the award. The club has become the eleventh in Perth & Kinross to receive the accreditation and will now look forward to building on its achievements!
Members enjoyed the use of some complimentary tickets (courtesy of Badminton Scotland) and watched some exciting badminton on display from some of Scotlands finest! Our own Patrick MacHugh put on a spirited performance, but unfortunately was overwhelmed with some exceptional skills and talent. For the full results of the championship click on the Badminton Scotland link on the home page.
The Clubs committee has been busy completing paperwork for accreditation in the Perth & Kinross Accredited Club Excellence Scheme.
PACES is a straightforward quality assurance system that has been designed to help voluntary sports clubs to operate efficiently and effectively. It will help our club take a systematic look at what it does, and decide exactly where improvements are needed. It is also a means of identifiying and rewarding clubs that operate in a structured way.
Sports Development Officer Simon Warren will be coming to the club on the 11th February at 8pm to present the club with its award. This should be a big benefit to the club in the future.

Unfortunately due to the severe weather there was not a big turn out for the competition, however that did not stop some brave soles venturing out in search of glory! Thanks to some nifty organising by Ian Coulter the Quaich continued on, with many games been played. The top four players of the night then fought it out in the final. With Alison Scott and Stephen Ross winning (21- 16) against John Kinloch and Mark Moran. Well done to all those who ventured out participated and congratulations to Alison and Stephen.
There was a presentation made at the Christmas party in the Presidents house. Alison Walker and Donald Edwards won the Kate Francis trophy, unfortunatley due to the weather they could not make it in. Alison Scott and Ian Coulter were awarded Runners up prizes. Alison Scott and Stephen Ross were awarded the Macdonald Quaich and a bottle of whisky for their efforts which was promptly handed back to Bill who we all know is a conniseur of all things whisky or is it whiskey? Bill!! Well done to all the winners and runners up.
The Club is now settling into the new Campus with ease. The new facility is a big improvement on the old High School, with better lighting and brighter wall colour making it easier to track the shuttles. Four committee members headed down to the Campus on the weekend of 21st - 22nd November 2009, which was the Campus' big open day for the whole community, giving the public an opportunity to come and view the marvellous facilities available to them. This gave local clubs and groups an opportunity to showcase themselves and try and attract new members to their clubs and groups. Vice President Stephen Ross and Committee member Rory Cooper invited members of the public on to the courts to "come and try" badminton, which proved very popular, especially with youngsters. President Bill Macdonald and Secretary Mark Moran had a busy time handing out leaflets to the public as they came in (Not letting anyone in without one!) The weekend turned out to be a big success with an increase in players turning up on club nights, lets hope it continues!!
Entry into the new Community Campus will be on Tuesday 2nd November 2009 at 8pm. All members are asked to be at the reception at 7.50pm sharp as security into the Campus will be a lot more securer than it was at the old high school and the old bell system will not work. The new hours in the Campus for the Club will be 8pm until 9.30pm, this is because the facilities management company that is running the Campus intends to have the building empty by 10pm, however discussions are underway to see if there is a possiblity of the time being extended until 10pm or at least 9.45pm. For the first 3 months the rental per night will remain the same as it previously was, however come January discussions will be held with the Council, regarding phasing in of the new rental charges, which will probably just about double the rental. The Club will have to revue it's finances regarding nightly fee's and subscriptions.
The Secretary has just been contacted about this years league. To be held once again at Bells sport centre in Perth. Any members who wish to participate in the league please contact a member of the committee. Also anyone who wishes to play in the league are recommended to buy a live active card at Bells or any local authority property as this enables members to get into sports facilities cheaper. The League starts on Wednesday 21st October 8pm. More information will be passed on to members when it is made available from the league secretary.
A Hawiian Night was organised to raise funds for Rachel house (CHAS). The night was a huge success with everybody getting in to the spirit for the cause, with the night raising £400.00. Which Club President Bill Macdonald handed over the cheque to CHAS representitive Norma Fulton. Many thanks goes to Vice President Stephen Ross and Isa Croll for all their hard work and contribution in organising this successful night.
A Fun night was organised to help raise funds for the Club. Members from the Club and from Drumbrae enjoyed a feast of different games including fluffy bunny which our own secretary won (which proves what a big gob he has). Also highlighted was the very talented singing by our very own Alan Johnson with an excellent rendition of Roxanne putting Sting to shame (well done Alan). Everybody had a ball and not to go away empty handed a raffle was also organised with everyone winning at least one prize each. Many thanks go to Isa Croll for organising the night to an inch of its life.
The annual BBQ and trophy presentation was held on the Saturday 30th May, with many members making an effort to turn up and enjoy the culinary skills of Head chef Stephen Ross, as usual the weather was absolutely glorious with members commenting again like last year what a jammy person Bill is for hosting the BBQ on days with beautiful weather. The hightlight of the day was the appearance of some waterpistols (wonder where they came from!!!!!) with everybody getting a good drenching at some point through the day. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up who received some unsual glass trophies, which the committee felt made a pleasant change to the norm'.

Well done to all who won and to all who played in the tournament, prizes to be presented at the Club BBQ 30th May at the Club Presidents house. Hope you can make it
Unfortunatelty due to a lack of ladies participating this year. The format for the competition had to be changed, (from the Ladies picking their partners to names being drawn from a hat). This made for some interesting pairings & some very competitive games. Congratulations to Nicola Mcguigan & Callum Graham who reached the final & went on to victory beating Fiona Dunning & John Wallace (21-8).
Well done to Patrick MacHugh, John Wallace, Chris Bode & Callum Graham, who reached the final of the competition. With Patrick & John becoming the eventual winners of the coveted trophy kindly donated by president Bill Macdonald. It was good to see so many members turning up and enjoying their games. Also many thanks to treasurer Ian Coulter for the excellent organising of the competition, his work made it run so smoothly.
Our Club Secretary was contacted by The President Ian Brown of the above league, who asked if the Club would be interested in forming a team to compete in the league. After some dicussion it was decided that a team would represent the Club in the league.
Matches will be held on Wedensday Nights Between 8pm - 10.15pm at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth. Costs per person is £5.00 with the Club paying for shuttles. The team consists of 3 ladies & 3 Gents, but we also require a pool of players in case people cannot turn up each week. Anyone interested please contact Mark Moran or Bill Macdonald with your name, telephone number & address.
